Have It All

Single US 2003 on Roswell Records label
Rock (Alternative Rock)

Track 3 recorded at BBC Studios in London on August 19, 2003 (for The Jo Whiley Show) A Track 4: "Weenie Beenie (Live)" is shown both on the pressed CD and the CD Single printed inlay. It is NOT however present on the actual CD pressing itself. Several possibilities (none proven) are thought to account for this. This CD single is the only retail US CD Single (not including Big Me and Five Songs And A Cover, which were EP's). At the time "Have It All" was due to be released in Australia and Europe as a single the band had done some covers at the end of the One by One sessions. One of these "Darling Nikki" was added to the track listings for those singles. The song also started getting major airplay in the US. It is thought that based on that airplay success, RCA decide it was worth releasing the same single in the US commercially, and so designed everything needed and intended adding the fourth track. In the meantime Prince was not at all happy about his song being covered, and it is believed he initiated legal action over any release in the United States. In the end the US CD Single WAS commercially released as this release, however it is has been shown by time to exist in only very small numbers. It is possible that it was withdrawn due to legal action. It certainly was not withdrawn due to lack of popularity as RCA USA later imported both Australian and European CD Single copies for retail sale in 2003-2004. With regard to the 4th track listing omission, it is believed either this single was made in a hurry and it was left off by mistake, or more likely one of the foreign masters was used for duplication which would have omitted the track. This is borne out by the fact this single has an earlier cat number and was released first, while the foreign singles versions were announced first. Also the Matrix / Runout for this CD is 82876563702, which is the same number as the Matrix and catalog numbers for both the Australian and European pressings, strongly indicating one of those masters was in fact finally used to press this US version. More detail is recorded in an MTV interview with Taylor Hawkins from Feb 8th 2007 entitled "Foo Fighters 'Have No Idea' Why Prince Covered Their Song At Super Bowl" which goes on to surmise Prince was still angry at the band in 2007, when he covered the Foo Fighters single "Best of You" in the halftime break of Super Bowl XLI. http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1551990/foo-fighters-perplexed-by-prince.jhtml
