Album MY 2016 on Doyerown Records label
Jazz, Rock, Folk, World and (Bossa Nova, Acoustic, Country, Folk)
The Surrogate Friend is Francis Wolf's second release as a solo artist. Hailing from a small town Kapar in Malaysia, this new effort is a departure from his initial release "Hopefully Whenever". While the first record was more stripped down, "The Surrogate Friend" is an entry into a more produced record. Combining pop melodies with a tinge of melancholy, the record also experiments with an ambiance. From the more "matter of fact" songs like "My Store Room" to more soul searching tunes like "Love and Lies", this record offers a vary of moods that, while varied keeps to the theme of the album. "The Surrogate Friend" also offers some social commentary on the current political state of Malaysia, sometimes using the local language of malay to get his point across at the grassroots. The accompanying art that fills the CD release are actual works of art from up and coming artist from Malaysia who worked in orchestra to produce a thematic release.
