These performances, recorded live at St. John's, Smith Square, London, form part of an historic occasion, The Dolmetsch Years, twelve concert and a major exhibition in May 1990 marked the fiftieth anniversary of Arnold Dolmetsch's death and the first hundred years of the Early Music Movement. The concept of playing music of the eighteenth century and earlier in the style and with the instruments of the period has expanded beyond anticipation. This event bought together more than sixty performers to pay tribute to the pioneer, catalyst and inspiration behind this phenomenon.
