American composer and Double Bass player. Born on July 18, 1941, Brooklyn, New York. Graduate of the Manhattan School of Music 1966 Master of Music. Self-taught composer. Worked as a double bassist and composer-in-residence with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra from 1966 to 1997 and the Princeton Chamber Orchestra. Between 1982 and 1989 Proto was also a Synclavier artist and composer. Proto is still active recording all of his chamber music.
