Austrian chorus master. * 19.9.1902 in Wien, † 20.10.1978 in Wien. Burkhart studierte Musikwissenschaft an der Universität Wien und Chordirigieren bei Ferdinand Grossmann. Er wirkte zunächst als Lehrer am Wiener Volkskonservatorium, später am Konservatorium der Stadt Wien und leitete seit 1945 die Kindersingschule der Stadt Wien. Den Titel Professor erhielt Burkhart 1951. Das kompositorische Schaffen steht in engem Zusammenhang mit seiner musikalischen Lebensaufgabe, der Chorpraxis und dem Jugendsingen. In diesem Zusammenhang sieht der Komponist auch seine Bezogenheit zur totalen Musik, die er überwiegend gepflegt hat. 1959 - Ehrenkreuz für Wissenschaft und Kunst. 1964 - Österreichischer Staatspreis. 1970 - Goldenes Ehrenzeichen für Verdienste um die Republik Österreich. 1971 - Ritterkreuz des päpstlichen St. Gregoriusordens. verschiedene in- und ausländische Kompositionspreise. Burkhart studied musical sciences at Vienna University and choir conducting with Ferdinand Grossmann. First he taught at "Wiener Volkskonservatorium", then at Vienna conservatory, since 1945 he was director of the children´s singing school Vienna. 1951 he was awarded the title professor. His work as composer is in close relation to his musical life task, choral singing and youth choirs. He was mainly devoted to tonal music, which was motivated by his engagement in these fields. 1959 - Cross of Honor for science and art. 1964 - Award of Austrian Republic. 1970 - Golden Badge of Honor for achievements for the Austrian Republic. 1971 - Knight´s Cross of the papal order of St. Gregorius.
