Franz Marc (February 8, 1880 – March 4, 1916) was a German avant-garde painter. Along with Wassily Kandinsky he was a founder of the "Der Blaue Reiter" ("The Blue Rider") group of painters. He was killed in World War I during the Battle of Verdun in 1916.
