Fredrick Leo Lewis Jr. (better known by his stage name, Fred Lewis) is a Hip-Hop recording artist specializing in all aspects of the genre. Whether it is the writing and performing of rhymes, singing of vocals, songwriting, or track production, Mr. Lewis specializes in and oversees all aspects of his musical creations. He hails from Alexandria, Louisiana--a city with a laid back vibe that rests in the heart of “The Boot”. The rich southern heritage of the state and of central Louisiana in particular have influenced his sound and lyrical style creating a unique aural experience that is just waiting to be unleashed upon the world. Fred Lewis began this journey when he started learning music on keyboards in 5th grade. Who could have known that from those early moments tinkering with notes and scales as a kid, that a love affair with music and its creation was being cemented for life. He graduated on to studying snare drums and percussion instruments later in his teenage years. The well-rounded sound of his productions can be attributed to this knowledge of both melodic and percussion instruments. Freshman year of high school was when the decision was made to seriously pursue a career in music. He admits, however, that during those high school years at Bolton, his young age and lack of support caused a few bumps in the road. Still, that did not sidetrack his dream and hunger to succeed at his craft. He continued to produce music and made his first sales selling CD’s of his work around the campus. When asked what exactly drew him to music and musicianship, Mr. Lewis simply states, “I’ve always loved music. Rap and Hip-Hop are my favorite genres, but I also study Pop and Rock. I would consider those my second and third favorite genres. I pretty much listen to anything that catches my ear and attention.” The love for music in general, from genres A to Z, is reflected in the wide range of sounds and vocal techniques used in his productions. This is an artist who cannot and will not be put in a box or labeled as simply "just another rapper." When it comes to his rhyming, he goes on to say, “I began rapping at the age of 14 over instrumentals I created. I recorded my first song through a simple keyboard using my headphones as a mic. The quality wasn’t the best but it got the job done. I was just happy to hear my own vocals over my own instrumental.” After that point, the rest was history. Song after song was produced and recorded. “I also eventually saved up and purchased a better microphone,” he laughs. 2006 was the year things really began taking off for him. He was old enough to pursue his passion on his own. He invested in quality studio equipment and began working at an even higher pace. His local fame has since sky-rocketed and he has performed all over Alexandria and other areas in the region. His first hit single titled “Roosters”, was a smash on local radio with consistent airplay for over a year and a half. He has since been invited for many interviews with radio personalities in the area and has been booked to perform in more than 20 cities in the state of Louisiana at various events. Mr. Lewis is now looking to take his career even further. He has reached what he states is, so far, his proudest moment and biggest accomplishment with the founding of his own record company, FLP Music, LLC. What lies ahead for this up and coming artist now that he is CEO of his own label? When asked he simply states, “I’m looking To the Sky.”
