Rock (Soft Rock, Lounge)
Fred Shelton owns and operates a very popular restaurant in Boulder, Colorado. It's called Fred's Restaurant. Not the Golden Kumquat or The Rocky Mountain Beef Emporium. Just Fred's. It's an unpretentious place run by an unpretentious man. As a close friend puts it, "Fred Shelton is a comfortable, uncomplicated, out-front guy who like to sing." This album is a collection of Fred's favorite songs. They're comfortable and unpretentious, too. And they're sung the way he sings them nightly in his restaurant on Pearl Street. Only here, they're backed up by a delightfully unusual group of Boulder musicians. You'll enjoy the old standards, as well as three Shelton originals: "Deep Purple Lilacs" has a gentle, timeless quality about it that recalls the 1940's and the Swing Era. "Smiley Eyes," a 1950's style ballad, was written to Fred's lady, Donnie. And "He Left A Hole In The Water Of My Life" relates to the title of this album. It was written in memory of a very close friend who passed away in August of 1977. "Bill Smith really was a very special person," Fred says. And this collection of the music Fred Shelton loves best is a very special album. It will bring a mellow moment to your day. -Don Dehon Recorded in 12 hours and 30 seconds on March 12, 1978 at North Star Studios, Boulder, Colorado.
