A.k.a. Fritz Münch
(Strasbourg, 02.06.1890 - Niederbronn-les-Bains, 03/10/1970): French musicologist and conductor. Son of organist-conductor Ernst Munch (1859-1928). Older brother of conductor Charles Munch (1891-1968), nephew of conductor Hans Münch (1893-1983). He studied at the Conservatory of Strasbourg and then in Leipzig, Berlin and Paris. Fritz Münch succeeded his father as conductor of the Choeur de Saint-Guillaume in Strasbourg. From 1936 he was a professor of music at the University of Strasbourg. From 1945 he was conductor of the Orchestre Municipal de Strasbourg. From 1949 to 1957 he led the musicological institute of Strasbourg. Fritz Münch was considered a specialist in the field of religious music, especially that of Bach.
