Single US 1976 on Rock of Ages Records label
Rock (Prog Rock, Psychedelic Rock)
Local Jacksonville Beach FL label Rock Of Ages Records (ROA 101) 1976 space rock / prog / psych 45 rpm single release. The label does not credit a group but it's obvious that it is GALAXY. Their SKY QUEEN private label album DAY WITHOUT THE SUN was released in 1976 and reached a greater audience in 1999 when Italian label ARKARMA re-released it. SPACE MOUNTAIN was a track on the LP but there is little or no knowledge available about this 45. If you listen to both, there is little doubt that the single is also GALAXY but there are some differences that may be a different recording or just different mixes. Either way they are close and you have to appreciate the punch of the 45 version. Some of the differences between the two are as follows: The LP track has a spoken intro that seems to reference the Disney ride and the 45 does not. Instead, the 45 features an extended open drum break intro. The LP timing for the track is around 4:05 while the 45 is a longer 4:37. The LP references the recording as done at Warehouse Recording Studios in Jax while the 45 lists Cypress Studios, Jax Beach. The music publishing is also different with Muckety Muck on the LP and Big Cypress on the 45. The single does credit the writers as GALAXY members - FENZI FABRI and SPACE MAMA GEIGER. FInally, the B-side, which is a little more standard rock, is not on the LP and doesn't seem to appear on any of the reissues.
