Garda nasceu em Luanda. Em 1957, Garda visita Portugal a convite de Manuel Espírito Santo, para animar o Baile de Debutantes. A editora Valentim de Carvalho convida-a para gravar "Maria Candimba". Aos 80 anos de idade grava o seu primeiro álbum.
