French Canadian pianist, composer, arranger (1932-1999) Gaston Rochon began his career with the choir school of the "Petits Chanteurs à la Croix de Bois" (Little Singers of the Wooden Cross) and studied music (cello) at the Quebec Conservatory. In 1950, he joined the vocal group "Les Collégiens Troubadours" (1950-1965) which contributed to the growth of Quebec songwriting industry. He met Gilles Vigneault in the late 1950s and became his pianist, conductor and arranger from 1963 until 1978. From 1979 he taught music at the University of Quebec, and composed musical themes for TV shows, radio, Canadian films. In 1993, he obtained a doctorate from the University of Gothenburg in Sweden for the genesis of songs by Gilles Vigneault. He died November 3, 1999.
