Band,
Electronic, Rock, Reggae, R&B/Soul and Pop
Originally a solo vehicle for designer/artist/photographer Xander Ferreira (who hails from the Limpopo province near Mozambique and was previously a reggae singer known as the White Lion), Gazelle turned into a duo after the permanent addition of DJ/producer Nick Matthews (the face-shielded DJ Invizable) in 2006. Thanks to its mix of synth-pop, natural rhythms and a wicked baseline, the South African group has turned traditional African music on its head through fusing it with funk, disco, and electro. Their popular live act has seen them tour throughout Europe, and they've even gone on to launch a clothing range for Comme des Garçon. Debut album "Chic Afrique" was released independently in January 2009, utilising the skills of session musicians Dubmasta China, Grenville Williams on bass, and Sean Ou Tim on drums.
