Westwood One In Concert: BBC Concert Classic IC 87-09

Album US 1986 on Westwood One label
Rock (Classic Rock)

GENESIS "BBC In Concert Classics: Genesis" Westwood One In Concert IC 87-09 Live at The Empire Pool Wembly, UK 15 April 1975 & Live at The Nassau Coliseum Long Island, New York, USA 29 November 1981 Original Airdate: 11 May 1986 1986 / 1987 pre-FM Translucent Double Vinyl LP One of the most bootlegged radio broadcasts in Genesis' history was recorded at the Empire Pool, Wembley. Genesis played two nights at Wembley in April of 1975, and the BBC were contracted to record both nights. Some sources quote the recording date as 14th, but comparison with an audience tape from 15th shows the recording is from the second night. Westwood One's initial version of this concert, the first of many, was in the form of this two part show subtitled "BBC Concert Classic: Genesis". Sent out on a two LP set, the first part was forty-five minutes of Wembley 1975, the second part contained tracks from The Nassau Coliseum in Long Island, New York from 29 November 1981, except No Reply At All and maybe Misunderstanding which were most likely recorded the previous night at The Savoy Theatre on 28 November 1981. One unique note about this set: The Cue Sheet indicates that the show number is 87-09, referring to the fact that this would be Westwood One's ninth show of 1987, however, the original airdate (as indicated by the Cue Sheet as well) states 11 May 1986. I have never seen a Westwood One Cue Sheet (or any pre-FM radio show Cue Sheet) which had a show number that did not correspond with the year of airing. This means that either the show number is incorrect and should have read 86-09, or the airdate is incorrect and should have read 11 May 1987. There is no definitive way to know for sure, but my guess is that the show number on the Cue Sheet is the one that is misprinted, especially given that the Matrix / Runouts indicate that the show number is 87-09. Also, there are several songs on the Cue Sheet which are misidentified. For starters (and these two are small ones) Back In New York City is misidentified as "Back In New York" and The Carpet Crawlers is misidentified as "Carpet Crawl" on the Cue Sheet. The other song errors are more severe. Hairless Heart is misidentified as "The Chamber Of 32 Doors", The Waiting Room is misidentified as "Evil Jam", and the last song from the Wembley show, misidentified as "The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway" is actually a medley featuring Silent Sorrow In Empty Boats / The Colony Of Slippermen (Arrival) / Ravine / The Light Dies Down On Broadway / Riding The Scree. This exact show was released again by Westwood One for broadcast in December 1988 on Westwood One In Concert: BBC Concert Classic I 88-25.
