Geoffrey Atkinson. After a misguided attempt to become a Chartered Accountant, Geoffrey Atkinson came to Aberdeen from his native Surrey in 1966 to read Music at the University. Since then he has been active as a church musician and Composer. He was appointed to Queen's Cross Church in early 1977. He has also been music critic of the (Aberdeen) “Press Journal since 1968 and it was in this capacity that he attended the first performance of the Cantata. He was so struck by the work that the singers were invited to join his own Queen's Cross Choir for a further performance on Remembrance Sunday morning in November 1978. The work was again presented on Remembrance Sunday 1983 and this led directly to the invitation to perform the Cantata [i. e. Ronald Center's Dona Nobis Pacem] on this record.
