Georg Kniestädt was born in 1895 in Berlin. He learned violin at the "Stern'sches Konservatorium". In 1912, aged 17, he became member oft the Orchestra of the Berlin Court Opera (later Staatsoper) for more than 30 years. From 1924 onwards he was Konzertmeister (leader) of the 1st violins. Georg Kniestädt had his own quartet (1932-1944) and was the leader of the Kammermusik-Vereinigung der Staatsoper. Being member of some nationalsocialist organiations he was not allowed to play in public after th war. George Kniestädt died in his native town in 1948.
