Georg Schmezer (or Schmetzer), * 21.3.1642 Augsburg, † Juli 1697 Augsburg, was a German cantor and composer. The son of a hosiery knitter was a member of the Kantorei at St. Anna since his 14th year of age. He received his musical training at Tobias Kriegsdorfer. In 1663, the Scholars made a study trip leading him to Stockholm. In 1664-1666 he was the conductor and organist of the chapel of the Swedish chancellor Magnus Gabriel de la Gardie. In 1667 he returned to Augsburg.
