British danceband, and big band composer, saxophonist, clarinetist, and vocalist, who was active from the early-1930s. He officially retired from music in 1959, but would occasionally lead a big band on a part-time basis after the death of his first wife, in 1981. Some of the acts that he performed with, were: Al Lever Band (1932) Freddy Bretherton's Spider's Web Orchestra (1933-34) Lou Preager (1934) Sydney Lipton And His Orchestra (Nov1934-Jan1939) Geraldo And His Orchestra (Jan1939-1941, 1947) Saxes ‘N Sevens (1941, 1946-1949?) The George Evans Orchestra (1944, 1946-51) Oxford Galleries (Newcastle) resident band (1951-58) George Evans And His Symphony of Saxes (1957-59) Born: 7th August 1915, in Wood Green, London, England. Died: 16th February 1993, in Newcastle Upon Tyne, Tyneside, England. [stomach cancer, aged 77]
