Geraldo Pereira (Juiz de Fora, April 23, 1918 - Rio de Janeiro, May 8, 1955) was a Brazilian samba singer and composer. Lived in Rio de Janeiro, near the Morro da Mangueira, a member of the extinct samba school Unidos de Mangueira and was Cartola's friend, also samba singer. Innovator of the MPB, created the syncopated samba that influence the bossa nova years later. Geraldo Pereira died in a strange way, in a hospital, months after a fight with the capoeirista Madame Satã. One of his best known compositions is Falsa Baiana, recorded by Gal Costa Gal in LP Fa-Tal (Todo Vapor). Other important sambas of his authorship are Acertei No Milhar, Escurinha, Sem Compromisso, Pisei Num Despacho e Bolinha de Papel. In 1998 was introduced a biopic titled O Rei do Samba, directed by José Sette and with Gerson Rose as Geraldo Pereira.
