Member of the anarchic Barrow Poets who also wrote prize-winning children's verse Gerard Benson was member of staff at the Central School for Speech and Drama for 20 years The poet Gerard Benson,died aged 83 2014, published 10 volumes of poems and prize-winning collections for children; an autobiography, Memoirs of a Jobbing Poet, was published summer 2014. Gerard was an ally of so many poets, along with a fellow "Barrow Poet", Cicely Herbert. He worked for almost 30 years, offering a wide range of poetry to a mass audience. He believed passionately that the arts should be accessible to all.
