Ghettoswingers

Band, PO

Swing-Big-Band founded 1943 by Polish jazz trumpet player Erich Vogel in the (KZ-like) Ghetto Theresienstadt with fellow Jewish prisoners. It was used by NS-propaganda to refute the accusation of the persecution of the Jews. They had to appear in the Nazi propaganda Film "Theresienstadt. Ein Dokumentarfilm aus dem jüdischen Siedlungsgebiet" for what they were promised to get released. Shortly thereafter most of the members were deported to KZ Ausschwitz-Birkenau where they were killed. Only 4 members survived. Known members were Erich Vogel (trumpet), Fritz Weiss (clarinet & saxophone), Martin Roman (piano), Fritz Taussig (trombone), Fritz Goldschmidt (guitar), Coco Schumann (drums)
