Album RU 2012 on Pocket Fields label
Electronic (Abstract, Drone, Noise, Experimental)
“Heights And Abysses” is a new album by Gimu - creator of strong and cold sound from hot and shining Brazil. He always works on many songs at the same time. But for the Pocket Field release, however, he didn’t want to use any song he had been working on, when the label invited him. As he said, he had some days off then devoted a lot of it to create some new songs. As for the songs themselves… I never really know how to explain things about my music, details. There’s a lot of persistence in them. It’s not a case of sitting down, waiting to feel inspired, etc, etc. I struggle, I try hard, I experiment until I think a piece sounds nice, beautiful, touching, etc. “Highly Expected…” was not an easy song to make. I was lost in its first draft. I loved all the floaty guitar thing of it but didn’t know how to give the whole song some proper shape since it’s a long one. I didn’t want it to sound like “oh god this song never ends!”. In the end I think I succeed in making it meaningful. “14 homes” does not sound like anything I’ve done before. It’s my summer song. I had this loop and I loved it and thought I might go and use it, repeating it many times, adding some sounds, as simple as that. I love the song’s texture. I could hear some seagulls at the end of the it when they were not there then I decided to use that seagull sound almost as a joke, because I promised myself once I’d never use birds sounds in my songs (well, I had already done that…). “Exosphere” is about “up there”. It should be an ethereal piece but it ended up sounding like hell. “Rupture” was not supposed to be on this release but when I finished it I realized it had almost the same atmosphere as the other three. So there you go, 4 songs, not 3. I always wanted to title a song “rupture”.
