Gino Carlini

Gino Carlini may technically have started his professional concert photography career at age 17 with the band Tesla, but that is certainly not where his story begins. For his 13th birthday, Gino was given his first camera as a gift & that is when his lifelong passion for photography began. It is fair to say that around the same time, his passion & love for music was growing as well. It was as if the two were intertwined, which, in fact, they would become. From the moment he had that camera in his hands, he knew he wanted to be a music photographer. The fact that his older sister is a famous radio DJ helped Gino make the contacts to obtain access to concerts that most teenagers never see, let alone learn their craft in. It was the early 1980’s and he honed his skills over the next several years shooting many artists & bands for several music outlets, Artists including David Bowie, Alice Cooper, Deep Purple, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, KISS, Def Leppard,Tesla and INXS. These were all big names at that time & it was a amazing way to start a career. From 1987 to 1991, Gino spent all of his time hopping between world tours with bands like Tesla, Testament, and many others doing their tour photography. Gino has been published in many reputable & respected music magazines including Burrn, Rolling Stone, Kerrang, RIP, Metal Hammer, and being published in tour books, Cd booklets,Posters, and music books. In 1992, Gino decided to change things up a bit & moved to New York city. Continuing to work in the music industry. In 1997 he traveled back to his hometown Detroit to work as key still photographer on the indie film “Corrupted Minds (aka Detroit)”. He spent 3 months working on the film and then the rest of year traveling, plus photographing the band Corrosion of Conformity who were the support on the band Metallica’s American tour. In 2001, Gino was asked to once again join the band Tesla on the road for their much anticipated reunion tour. The band recorded their entire tour and released the double live cd set “Replugged Live” and also a single live cd “Standing Room Only”. Gino did all the photography, designed the CD covers, layout of the packaging & the promotional poster. In 2002 Gino moved into the field of architectural photography. As an architecture photographer he has been featured in many magazines such as Home & Design and Detroit home. During the years of 2004 to 2007, Gino was the Orlando staff photographer for “From House To Home” magazine. In 2008, Gino returned to Detroit. He has continued working in both the music industry, as well as in architecture. Throughout 2010-2017 he has photographed several music artists including Alice Cooper, Metallica, Whitesnake, Rush, Peter Gabriel, KISS, Filter, Our Lady Peace, Bush, Slash, Janes Addiction, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Anthrax, Slayer, Shinedown, and Testament. He did an extensive photo session with Richard Patrick and his band Filter for their publicity photos which were shown on ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live. In Feb 2012 he did all the photography for the album “Dark Roots of Earth” from the band Testament in New York City. Nine versions of this album with his photography have been produced, including 6 different colored vinyl albums. It was #12 on the Billboard charts and became Itunes most downloaded Heavy Metal Album of 2012. As for 2017 and beyond, Carlini is concentrating more on his Landscape, Travel and Astrophotography. Selling Archival Prints of his past and present images and also planning on some future exhibitions of his work. Gino Carlini is a seasoned veteran who has an amazing eye.
