(b c1510; d Rome, 16 Dec 1569). Italian instrumentalist and composer of the Renaissance era. He belonged to a family of professional men and landowners in Tivoli. In 1532 he was recruited by Guidobaldo della Rovere, then Prince of Urbino, to perform in a play in Pesaro. Having acquired a reputation as an accomplished player of the violone, as Silvestro Ganassi pointed out, Tiburtino entered papal service; in 1545 he was listed as
