Pascal and Gavin were introduced to each other on email by Arne Kitler from German band Jullander. After some conversing and tape sending they got onto the topic of recording together. In his other bands Billy Mahonie and Jet Johnson, Gavin would work with tapes of lone drums adding guitars and basses in the process of experimenting and writing. Pascal, drummer for Below The Sea from Quebec City, Canada, sent a tape of himself at the kit to Gavin who then went to work on them with an 8 track recorder in an attempt to construct coherent pieces of music. The first results of were released in July 2000 as the debut single Glider: Songs on Johnny Kane Records.
