voc, *1946 US, Texas
Singer / Musician of R&B/Soul
Soul singer Born on 26 February 1946, in Port Arthur, Texas, USA. She moved to San Francisco Bay area where she met Sly Stone, as her aunt sang in a group with him. When Sly heard her singing Carla Thomas' "Gee Whiz" he formed a group for her Gloria Scott & The Tonettes and wrote the two sides of their single "I Taught Him". After this, Scott started singing as back up singer for Ike & Tina Turner as a member of Ikettes and later in the early 70's she caught the attention of Barry White that signed her to his label Soul Unlimited and licensed her debut album to Casablanca. Although her non album single "Just As Long As We're Together" was a hit in 1974, she never released a second album, though she had signed a seven years' deal with Barry White's label. Gloria Scott signed a seven-year contract with Barry White. There was only one album What Am I Gonna Do and six years of galley. Between the two was born this single that was the apple of discord. He reached the 14th place of the Disco charts and strong of this success the same Gloria became angry all red with the impious Barry: - "I'm not your singer you handle at will, Barry, I want to sing my own songs my own lyrics and mostly I want to work directly with you, my Barry, and not have all the time in my legs this gnome of Gene Page and all his acolytes! ". Barry White listened calmly to him like a Buddha, venturous and benevolent, and pronounced these words in his voice from beyond grave: - "Ok, I call HR Barnum and I see if he is free ... you will close the door when leaving, thank you" Gloria recorded a second album with HR Barnum, who never came out and whose titles have not yet been exhumed for forty years. The reasons were never known. Mysterious. They were surely buried in the foggy brain of Barry where cathedrals of sounds were built more quickly than the speed of sound. Poor Gloria wept over her fate for six years, her only consolation was to read the Billboard charts where she had not been featured for a long time and watch ad libitum SOul Train show where ecstatic dancers moved on her favorite song "Just As Long As We're Together ": the unexpected encounter between a cathedral of sounds all made of solid gold and the Gothic arrows unleashed by the voice of Gloria
