Band,
God The Band (aka “GTB” aka “GOD”) was a performance-art rock group based in New York City which operated from 1998 to 2003. Existing on the fringe of the anti-folk movement spearheaded by groups like The Moldy Peaches and Dufus, GOD often shared the same bill with these acts at venues such as The Sidewalk Café, Arlene’s Grocery and The Knitting Factory on Manhattan’s lower east side. A brainchild of the musical RENT-alum Daniel Robbins and filmmaker Matt Glasson (under the names Danny Rockett & Mugwump Jizm), the group was known for their theatrical stage antics, their ‘60s-influenced rock sound and their stacked vocal harmonies. In addition to their multi-media “performance rock” shows, they recorded two full-length albums, an EP and released two music videos during their time together. Danny's side-career as an actor lead to an ongoing bit part on the CBS dramatic series “The Education of Max Bickford” which helped open the door to licensing several of the group’s songs to the show, including the love ballad “(You Will Be) So Much Better Without Her which was performed on the episode "Save The Country" by the legendary Isaac Hayes and actress Katie Sackhoff. After a final three-month tour throughout the northeast and New England (during which the group also sidelined as the house band in a stage production of Hedwig And The Angry Inch), God The Band called it quits in the winter months of 2003 and they haven’t played together since.
