A.k.a. Louis Golson Hawkins
Pianist; owner of Goldie`s on New York City`s 53rd Street and Goldie`s on Fire Island, N.Y. His restaurants became a gathering place for entertainment figures. Art Carney became his best friend. ``I have been through two wives with him,`` he says. Sidney Chaplin, Carol Bruce, Arlene Francis, Rita Hayworth, Ethel Merman, Jack Klugman, Signe Hasso, Richard Kiley, Fay Emerson, Eva Gabor and others were regulars over 15 years. While he never asked his celebrated guests to perform, there were some fine moments.``For instance, I taught Carol Channing to do the time-step for Gentlemen Prefer Blondes,`` he says. And one evening when Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly were dining at the New York Goldie`s, inspired by the beat of Goldie`s piano, Astaire rose from the table and thrilled the clientele by dancing in the aisles.
