Minneapolis, Minnesota Gospel Choirs United (GCU) is a giant gospel music icon in Minnesota. Organized in 1974 by Phyllis Williams and the late Sam Davis, the choir continues to spread the good news of Jesus Christ. Over its 42-year history, the choir has electrified audiences with an unforgettable upbeat sound. Annual concerts are filled with traditional, contemporary and mainstream gospel selections that capture the essence of God's goodness. This choir has sung before sold-out audiences, from the local church to the Fitzgerald and Ordway theaters. This compelling choir is composed of the most talented singers in the Midwest. Not only is the choir fantastic but the band is terrific and sometimes, quite honestly, off the charts! With rhythmic grooves and intricate harmonies, the choir and band are an awesome combination. The choir has featured many national recording artists in concert such as Daryl Coley, Keith Pringle, Steven Roberts and Jeffrey LaValley, just to name a few. To it's credit, GCU has also been involved in theater. The choir continues to receive recognition for participation in the highly acclaimed run of "Gospel at Colonus," a Broadway Musical which has also had a run at Minneapolis' Guthrie Theatre. Other theater credentials include participation in the Christmas musical "Harlem Nutcracker" as the Northrop Auditorium, and participation in the Plymouth Music Series "Witness" production with James Earl Jones at the Minneapolis Convention Center.
