American jazz bassist. Born : September 02, 1912 (for some source, 1915) in Miami, Florida. Died : November 03, 1996. Played with (among others) "Savoy Sultans", Billie Holiday and Mildred Bailey and with own bands. His son, Grachan Moncur III (born 1937) is a jazz trombonist and composer.
