Grate was formed as a solo project in 2001 by Nick Holmquist from Sweden. He released the album "I For One" and later teamed up with Dale Whitaker (drums) and Patrik Akterhall (bass guitar). The band then released "What You Think" in 2003. Grate experienced difficulties while preparing for a 3rd album as well as planning for a tour in the US, which resulted in Nick recording and producing other bands and artists, while writing new material for the next album. It took 13 (!) years and 24 albums to finally see the release of "There Be Monsters" in 2016. The music is a mix of noiserock, jazz, sludge and doom metal, but always with a raw metal coating.
