Green Circles

Band, GB
Alternative

Green Circles is a now-defunct Portland, Oregon-based indie rock group with elements of UK punk, early new wave, postpunk, and art rock. The group's sound was favorably compared to The Sound, The Comsat Angels, Joy Division, Television, The Fall, Echo & The Bunnymen, and Gang Of Four. The five-piece signed to the underground label Luminal Records out of Atlanta, Georgia, in 2004, and toured the country with labelmates The Prids in June and July of that year. The group released a handful of EPs in the early 2000s, and a 7" single on Luminal Records in 2004. They broke up in 2005, then got back together in 2007, only to break up in 2008 midway through recording their debut album. The group then briefly reconvened as a three-piece to record a cover of the Prids song "Lienzencages" for the 2009 tribute/fundraiser album "Dots To Connect" (The Prids had been in a massive van accident earlier that year and had sizable medical bills. The proceeds of the tribute album went towards helping pay those bills.) At various shows in between 2003 and 2008, Green Circles opened for The Fall, The Raveonettes, Longwave, A Place To Bury Strangers, The Rogers Sisters, GoGoGo Airheart, Marmoset, The Roman Numerals, The Prids, Sugarboom, and The Epoxies. Lineups: 2000-2003: Kell (guitar, vocals, backing vocals), Jeff (guitar, bass, vocals, backing vocals), Chelsea (drums, backing vocals), Jimmy (guitar, bass, vocals, backing vocals), Daniel (guitar, bass, backing vocals) 2003-2004: Kell (vocals), Jeff (guitar, bass, keyboards), Jimmy (bass, guitar), Daniel (guitar, bass, keyboards), Jason (drums) 2004-2005: Kell (vocals), Jimmy (bass), Jason (drums), Robin (guitar) 2007-2008: Kell (vocals), Jimmy (bass), Jason (drums), Daniel (guitar), Travis (guitar) 2009: Kell (vocals, bass), Daniel (guitar, backing vocals), Robin (drums, backing vocals)
