A.k.a. Nathan Clemence
Grimbergen is Nathan Clemence, a man from the North of England who spent many years living in Scotland in various states of grumpiness and black humour. Having devoted his unfortunate life to the pursuit of post-industrial music in its many forms it was inevitable he would have to try his hand at producing his own efforts. Somewhere between dark ambient, neo-classical and some kind of post-industrial, Grimbergen attempts to put negative feelings into atmospheric and melancholic music with the vain and foolish hopes that somebody somewhere might just like it. Formed in Edinburgh 2001, as many as four demos were released, very few concerts were performed and a steadily declining number of not always complimentary reviews were received. A relocation to Prague at the end of 2005 encouraged a new start, and the inclusion of bass guitar and choral vocals gave a fuller, more original sound. As if by magic, this resulted in a real album release in April 2007, "A Lonely Place", courtesy of the Austrian industrial noise label Steinklang Industries. Two years followed, putting a large amount of work into a second album, featuring more experimental samples, more bass guitar and the daring move of writing songs with lyrics. In spring 2009 the finished product was sent, and Steinklang, not particularly promptly, dropped Grimbergen! Only neo-folk for them. The reaction was somewhat extreme, leading to the creation of the hygiene-themed power electronics act, Now Wash Your Hands. Grimbergen was put to sleep for an indefinite period. 2011: the unreleased tracks, an album and an EP, were reshuffled to exclude the unsatisfactory lyrical efforts. New, fully instrumental material was begun. Back to sleep by the end of the year. 2013: Grimbergen will live again! The new version of a second album is being professionally remastered. 2016: "The Passing Of Time" is out at last!
