"These recordings are from a series of intense gristian rituals that took place in late 2012 / early 2013, with a focus on minimalist repetition and the gradual phase-shifting that comes from capturing a small sound and re-animating it in two (or more) interweaving unsynched loops. As the loops gradually weave in and out of synch, deep trance states can be entered, resulting in an altered state of experience. Occult minimalism. Improvised dark zen. Within these immersions, black distortions peel back consciousness, layers of field recordings create mental/spiritual spaces, and ever-changing minimalist waves drag one into one’s own personal abyss – facing nothingness – and the shamanic journey back into the redemption of the familiar material realm. These recordings are, as with all black zen gristian ritual sonics, recorded in immersive mono. A single point in a universe of indefinite – yet finite – single points. Grist is ‘A Demon Sheen’ in the form of practising chaos-musician. But he has many forms.
