Musician / Composer of Classical
Swiss-born Danish composer of modern classical music (11 January 1909 – 25 August 1989), a leading pioneer in the genre serialism in Denmark. His "Cosmogonie for two pianos" (1952) is considered to be the first Danish serial composition. Berg studied with Herman D. Koppel from 1938 to 1943. In 1948 he settled in Paris, studied with Arthur Honegger and Olivier Messiaen, became part of the post war international modernist movement and met with and became inspired by artists such as John Cage, Pierre Boulez and Karlheinz Stockhausen. In 1952 he married the pianist Béatrice Duffour (following that Béatrice Berg), who would later record much of his piano music.
