Jersey City indie-pop outfit the Gwens originally comprised singers/guitarists Rick Timmons and Kevin Neblung, bassist Peter Erchick and drummer John Rosendahl. Initially dubbed the Wiffengwens, with the defection of Erchick (who joined the Olivia Tremor Control) the group shortened its name, added bassist Tony Marchetelli and issued their debut single "Wallet" on their own Dear Diary label in 1997. An EP, Spin Tickle, followed on Kindercore a year later.
