Hal Linden (born March 20, 1931, New York City, New York, USA) is an American stage and screen actor, television director and musician. He began his career as a big band musician and singer in the 1950's. He later served in the United States Army and after returning to civilian life began an acting career. In 1974, he landed the title character in the television comedy series Barney Miller (1974-1982). In 2011, he released his first album of pop and jazz standards, "It's Never Too Late".
