A.k.a. John Ringhofer
Half-handed Cloud is an interesting phenomenon. John Ringhofer, the man behind the namesake, is as joyful and frugal as his music. Half-handed Cloud is able to ensconce complicated theological concepts into playground song without condescending to his subject or to his listener. Started as a Chattanooga, TN solo project on Corner Room Recordings in 1999, Ringhofer was living in Knoxville when the first Half-handed Cloud album was reissued in 2001 as a co-release between Sufjan Stevens' Asthmatic Kitty Records and Danielson's Sounds Familyre. The next year, John moved to the California Bay Area and was based there for over a decade. Ringhofer has lived with his family in Helsinki, Finland since 2015.
