In 1986, flutist and former instructor at the Cologne conservatory, Hans-Martin Müller, founded the LOFT, a concert room and recording studio in Cologne, near the conservatory. In 1987 the LOFT moved to a new location in Ehrenfeld. He has been organizing concerts with improvised and contemporary music at the LOFT since 1989.
