Album US 1976 on Joyce label
Jazz (Big Band, Vocal, Swing)
Liner notes: Harry James' long awaited visit to these British shores in '71-'72 was greeted with sell out concerts and a renewed interest in this great orchestra. Many had remembered the band from the war years and the great Armed Forces Radio Service broadcasts. These V Disc performances on this LP span the years 1941-1944. Many are "live broadcasts" and feature three of the great vocalists with the band, Dick Haymes, Buddy Moreno and the unforgettable Kitty Kallen. The amazing guitar work of Allen Ruess is featured on Steel Guitar Rag and the unmistakable trumpet of Harry James on all the other tracks. I am sure this excellent LP will be welcomed all over the world by every serious Harry James collector. - David Shipton Recording dates / original V Disc releases: July 1943: A1 - Oh What A Beautiful Morning, V Disc 109 A2 - The Sad Sack, V Disc 109 August 1943: A3 - Sierra, V Disc 160 A4 - Better Give Me Lots Of Lovin', Honey, V Disc 160 A5 - Mexico City, V Disc 177 A6 - Blue Lou, V Disc 177 A7 - Charmaine, V Disc 177 Early 1941: B1 - Let's Go Home, V Disc 217 May 1941: B2 - Maria Elena, V Disc 238 October 1944: B3 - On The Alamo, V Disc 299 B4 - I'll Walk Alone, V Disc 336 B5 - Love Department, V Disc 336 B6 - There Goes That Song Again, V Disc 347 B7 - Steel Guitar Rag, V Disc 347 Producer's Note : Mr. Shipton is a leading British authority on the Harry James Orchestra.
