Hell On Earth is a controversial heavy metal and industrial rock band from Tampa, Florida. Hell On Earth is the musical creation of BillY Tourtelot. He is the chief songwriter and plays most of the instruments on the studio albums. For live shows BillY and his backing band perform the music while providing visually stimulating performance art. On stage, they have had sex with skinned calves and had fans drink a blended concoction of dead rats. Their first album, "Biomechanical Ejaculations Of The Damned," was recorded at Morrisound Recording Studios in Tampa, FL with Tom Morris between February 1996-April 1996. From 1997-1999 Hell On Earth's compelling and legendary live shows were developed. They made regular guest appearances on radio programs and television shows that included WXTB Bubba The Love Sponge, WMNF Dark Horizon's, and The Lobster Boy Television Show. Some notable events Hell On Earth have been featured at are The Expo Of The Extreme in Chicago, IL, Devils Night I, II & III, Tampa, FL and Clear Channel's Livestock, Zephyrhills, FL. Between 2000-2001 Hell On Earth's second album, "All Things Disturbingly Sassy," was recorded at The Bakery Recording Studio in St. Petersburg, FL. "All Things Disturbingly Sassy" made it to the first round of the 45th Annual Grammy Awards. Also "My Angels Are Demons," a song off of "All Things Disturbingly Sassy," is featured on the Cleopatra Records compilation entitled "Black Sunshine." In September 2003 lead singer BillY Tourtelot said the band accepted a terminally ill fan's request to die on stage during the band's concert scheduled for October 4, 2003 in St. Petersburg, Florida. Consequently, Florida Governor Jeb Bush and Florida Attorney General Charlie Crist announced that the band would be prosecuted for assisting with suicide. In 2004, the Florida Senate, in response to the band's actions, passed a bill barring the "exploitation of self-murder" for "commercial or entertainment purposes," subsequently signed into law by Governor Bush.
