Hermon Weems

A.k.a. Hermon Lee Weems

Soul songwriter Born on 21.02.1938 in Detroit, Michigan, U.S. Died on 27.07.2010 of complications that followed an operation to remove an eye and amputate one of his legs, due to his diabetes illness. Started singing with the doo wop group The Sparrows, in the early 50's, along with Albert Hamilton, Charles Harris, Paul Lesley and Phil Townsend. He went on to work for Anna Records along with Albert Hamilton, his brother Bob Hamilton and Ronnie Savoy. When Berry Gordy fired them, they hooked up with Eddie Wingate and started working for his labels Golden World, Ric-Tic Records and [=Wingate]. Hermon's song writing credits can be found on such classic recordings as Al Kent (2)'s "The Way You Been Acting Lately" and "You've Got To Pay The Price" as well as many other Ric Tic releases by the Detroit Emeralds and the Fantastic Four. When Berry Gordy bought Eddie Wingate's labels, Weems founbd himself working again for Berry Gordy's Motown. With some of his most accomplished works being the covers for the The Temptations's "Psychedelic Shack" and "Cloud Nine" albums. In 1972 Hermon composed the in demand "Why Can't There Be Love" for Detroit soulstress Dee Edwards. In 1975 Hermon joined forces with Evans J. Clark and his old friend J. J. Barnes to compose the sublime "I Think I've Got A Good Chance" During the 80's, Hermon was the victim of a armed robbery at his home and was shot several times. All the bullets were removed except one which periodically caused Hermon to be laid up when it rubbed against a certain nerve.
