Brazilian composer and singer. Born in Macau, State of Rio Grande do Norte; died in Natal, Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil, in 1964, aged 41. Moved to Rio de Janeiro in 1952, at age 29. That same year, his song "Amei Demais" (co-written with his brother Haroldo de Almeida) was recorded by Vera Lúcia. João Gilberto ("Meia Luz"), Dalva de Oliveira ("Encontrei Afinal"), Elizeth Cardoso, Maysa, Dircinha Batista, Cyro Monteiro, Dora Lopes, Marlene, Cauby Peixoto, Elza Soares, and Nana Caymmi ("Nossos Beijos") also recorded his tunes. Recorded his first solo album as a singer in 1955, arranged by Antonio Carlos Jobim. That same year, he wrote "Cinema Bossa-Nova", with lyrics by Chico Anysio and recorded by Carlos Henrique.
