High Dependency Unit (HDU) are a New Zealand trio from the city of Dunedin, consisting of Tristan Dingemans, Neil A Phillips and Constantine Karlis, and mining a style of post/drone-rock in the vein of Mogwai or countrymen Jakob (3). Their 1997 Higher EP was remixed by a variety of more electronically inclined New Zealand producers, creating a edge-smoothed melodic and lush sound that broadened the appeal of the group; with the Soundproof remix of the track Lull proving something of a hit.
