Guinean band formed in 1961 and led by Métoura Traoré. The Horoya Band de Kankan won the best orchestra prize in 1967, 1968 and 1971 at the Quinzaine Artistiques Festival. Horoya Band became "nationalized" in 1971 by official decree of then president of Guinea, Sékou Touré. They recorded variously under the names Horoya Band, Horoya Band National and National Horoya Band until they disbanded in 1974.
