Howard Stelzer Crossing Parallel - Live in Boston Cassette music composed by HS, performed live at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts/Tufts University in Boston, MA on February 25, 2018. Jeff Barsky played guitar. Film by Joe Taylor. Photos by Peter Gumaskas. Live sound and recording by Kevin Micka. Thank you: Susanna Bolle, Michael Rosenstein, Luke Martin, Danny Gromfin, everyone at Non Event, Marcus Schmickler, Thomas Lehn and Chris Donaldson. Crossing Parallel was written as an "extended film" audiovisual performance piece. The film was made by Joe Taylor, using human-free images of the American Southwest (sunrises, mountains, deserts, landscapes etc). It was intended as a step sideways from the soundtrack I composed for Taylor's narrative film, "The Crossing", which was filmed in the Nevada desert. This parallel piece begins with some of the same elements as the soundtrack, but takes off from there. I stood at the center of the space, surrounded by four inwards-facing speakers and two large subwoofers. Taylor's film was projected in front of the audience.
