Humphrey Mabote


South African songwriter and sound engineer (Date of Birth: 1963-05-28). Humphrey was one of the very first generation of black engineers in South africa. He also co-produced the DJ Walker cD, Shesa Mpama (1999), featuring Senyaka Kekana, a project that continued to produce controversial lyrics. Some of his other solo works include the albums MaMatilda (1998) and uMagubani (1999), which amongst other tracks features one of the most emotional renditions of the freedom song Ibambeni, finally exposing the freedom fighter, giving away the soldier. Humphrey Mabote, Downtown Studio's first black engineer, fell ill and passed away on 15 May 2002. Rest in peace there amongst the big guys.
