A.k.a. Torkjel Austad & Halvard Helle
Humrush was formed in Kristiansand, Norway by brothers Torkjel Austad (keyboards/samples) and Halvard Helle (guitars) in the beginning of 1998. In July 1999, Humrush debuted live with three intimate and successful concerts at the Quart Festival with audiences including Massive Attack and Blur. The concerts set the standard for the sound of Humrush being a mix of live instruments and samples. This could not have been done without the additions of talents like Klaus Blomvik (drums), Roger Williamsen (double bass) and Tine Wulff (vocals). In May 2000, Torkjel and Halvard starts working on their "Turbotape" relase. The songs chosen were "Sugarpop" and "Only Way" and the ground work is produced together with Daniel Steinsland in Oslo. Later, bass (Roger Williamsen) and drums (Klaus Blomvik) for "Turbotape" were recorded in Kristiansand. Vocals by Tine Wulff are recorded in Oslo. The final production is finished a month later by Torkjel, Halvard and Peter Edwards. Humrush - Turbotape (12") was released on Groovecentral Recordings in April 2001 with remixes by Christian Watkins (Slowpho) and Dan Drehn (Selsius). On April 25 2001 "Sugarpop" played at NRK P3 (Norwegian radio) for the first time. But this was literately just the start. In the following months the various songs of the Turbotape release was played regularly through the year. Humrush last performance was at By:Larm 2002 festival.
