Single US 1993 on Outpunk Records label
Alternative (Punk)
Rock 'n' Roll Drag Queen isn't about a drag queen at all really. It's about a transgendered girl, but the lyric just kinda came to me that way, and nobody said anything about it at the time. We had wanted to put 'Boy Raper' on the B side, but the label refused, saying that the title and lyric was too controversial. Boy Raper was later released by Munster Records on their 'All Kindsa Girls vol. 3' compilation. This A side was the only Hyperdrive Kittens song I ever sang lead on, although I wrote most of our material. Me and Jenene wrote 'Addiction' together, and it was the only time we ever collaborated back then. We had released our first single 'Phone Sex Girls' on our own label, Whip 'n' Cream in early 1993. We met Matt Wobensmith, who ran Outpunk Records, at a gig at Klub Komotion that we played with Pansy Division on 2/27/1993. It was shortly after that that he approached us about releasing a record on the Outpunk label, so both of those singles came out the same year. We were on the Munster double 7 inch compilation, and one of their CD compilations, as well as the later Outpunk compilation, but we were never on any other 7 inch releases. We always wanted to put out our own CD, and we began recording one in about 1996, but it never got released. ~ Lee Nails
