Dill – Lead Vocals Rex Brough – Bass Dave Pepper – Keyboards Chris Hull – Guitar Rick Medlock – Drums Colin Kiddy – Keyboards Paul Johnston - Drums ‘I’ formed in 1981 from the ashes of Coventry bands God’s Toys and X-Certs. Dill had a vision of ‘I’ as the equivalent of a “modern day church service” to make every concert a spectacular event, rather than just another gig… The band’s initial style was quickly linked to the new romantic movement Signed to EMI publishing, the band used the Coventry Youth Orchestra on their early recordings.. Playing prestigious gigs at Coventry’s new Cathedral and on BBC2’s Riverside programme…Crowning this with a Peter Powell Radio 1 session. Their first and only release followed on their own Iconoclast records… The 7 inch ”I am I” c/w Deus Ex Machina. Following this, a change of line up and style led to the 1983 incarnation of ‘I’, with a more contemporary hip hop sound, bringing in drum machines and synthesisers. After shooting some promotional videos and playing a local show, the band went their separate ways, citing the usual “musical differences”…
